❝she was a beautiful dreamer.
the kind of girl who
kept her head in the clouds,
loved above the S T A R S
and left regret beneath the EARTH
she walked on.❞

Sirius ran as quickly as his human feet would carry him. Bobbing and weaving between the bodies of unsuspecting students, who had started filling out into the hallway after the bell rang. It was nearly perfect timing, serving as cover for Sirius while he very narrowly escaped Filch. The seventh year rounded a corner at full speed, his trainers slipping and sending him veering off course by several feet. He dropped down low in an effort to stop himself from sliding any further and with a thud, Sirius hit the ground. Before the man had the chance to catch up, he was scrambling to his feet again.
Furious, incoherent shouting, came from just a ways down the corridor. Stopping short at the next turn, the idea for Sirius to duck into a classroom and hide occurred to him suddenly. It was a mad dash to the nearest door without being spotted again, passersby purposefully moving out of the way now to clear a path. Most of them didn’t know what was going on. They had no clue that in only the first few back in school, someone would’ve had the nerve to transfigure the office furniture of the caretaker into different farm animals.
However, those people clearly weren’t well acquainted with Sirius, now standing on the opposite side of a door to a classroom he thought was empty. He draws out his wand, uttering a quiet spell to lock himself in. Once he’s sure that the coast is clear, he’ll venture back out. Finally, his adrenaline starts to dull, which leaves him panting against the wall. When realising he’d not alone as he previously though, the colour drains from his face. Staring at him with a puzzling expression is Lily, of all people. Her ‘Head Girl’ badge pinned visibly on her uniform. “Oh,” Sirius says casually, despite his still ragged breathing. “Hi, Evans. I didn’t see you there.“
from the second she stepped off the platform onto hogwarts grounds lily felt like she was being forced to put on an act. a brave face, a nonchalant smile, the admirable head girl everyone expected her to be and merlin forbid she didn’t deliver. it was all rushing by at hyper speed, the greetings, meetings with the new prefects, getting the first years in order for the sorting feast, saying hello to old friends and avoiding those she didn’t consider friendly any longer, it was all bloody EXHAUSTING. of course, she didn’t falter, her bright smile glued onto her lips though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. until she just couldn’t take it any longer.
so she ran.
over the years lily had become quite the agile little minx, there was a reason why the troublesome redhead was hardly ever caught misbehaving and it served her well that afternoon as she evaded any familiar faces a she scurried towards the third floor, slipping into an empty room where she could finally BREATHE. with a low groan, the red head lowered herself onto one of the empty chairs and pulled out a fresh pack of cigarettes she’d kept concealed within her robes, shaking out a stick before raising it to her lips and fishing out her trusty lighter. just as she was about to light the cigarette a fumbling clamour caught her attention and the last person she would have ever imagined to see was suddenly leaning back against the shut door, his laboured breaths eliciting a soft giggle from the girl.
lily stepped forward, tucking the unlit cigarette between her ear and her fiery locks. she felt relief wash over her, his friendly face erasing any sort of anxiety she had bottled up moments prior. in many ways, sirius black was much more useful than a deadly smoke stick. ❝you alright there black? you look pretty out of breath. you wouldn’t happen to be running away from trouble now would you?❞ she teased, a playful gleam shining in her eyes as she stepped forward to pull him into a tight embrace.
“Thank you! It’s just not fun idolizing the things other people do if it means putting yourself down. So why don’t you tell me about your summer as well? I’m sure it was a blast!” She suggested giving her a kind smile to show she was more than willing to sit their for hours talking about summer vacation. “It was my first time it was definitely interesting. Favourite part was either the beaches or the amusement park we went to. It had a castle and lots of cute characters walking around, definitely worth it.”
❝not really much to report back, i had a pretty dull summer. just helped mum out loads i suppose, avoided yet another world war with my sister. really it was over in the blink of an eye. i’m much more interested in your sun riddled adventures,❞ lily struggled to keep the focus of the conversation off of herself and steered it towards the right direction once more, a soft smile touching her delicate features. ❝oh i’ve heard of that place, disney yeah? sounds pretty fantastic indeed. maybe i’ll go sometime. ❞
“ exciting? pshht– exciting is a strong word. it’s also an accurate one. my sweet sunflower, my orange ray of light– let me tell you. there was a boy in ipanema. “
❝i knew i could count you know to break out the scolding hot tea. so a boy? age? height? shoe size? shagability from one to ten? and in case things got heated up, just how good was he?❞
“ i’d say ‘NAH’ , but those WILES of yours …. those damn evans’ genes . ”
“ we ran into a woman who was DEAD SET on telling us about our past lives . get this — i was once a majestic eagle , struck down by a LIGHTNING BOLT . she was a little odd … kept tellin’ me to stay away from beautiful gardens if i wanted to survive . ”
❝i have faith in you, someday it’ll be your wiles driving me crazy.❞
❝she sounds positively mad but i have to say, the most interesting people usually are. you should know a thing or two about that. huh, sounds like a fair bit of wisdom you should keep in mind, i’d hate to see you fall at the mercy of these “beautiful gardens”. i’m sure there were no LILIES in that garden though, i’ve been told we’re rather pleasant. ❞
“ we both know your level of mystery has ALWAYS kicked me on my arse . ”
“ i , on the other hand , am an open book . you can get that outta me at ANY time ; could even ask sirius , really . some might say the bastard had a better time than i did . ”
❝don’t worry potter, i’m sure SOMEDAY you’ll catch up. you’ve got your charm at least.❞
❝i’m sure i’ll get an in depth review from him later but i’d actually quite like to hear your side of the story. come on james, if you’re an open book, lay down some amazing stories of your adventures, you know how much i enjoy them.❞
“if you insist. next time try not to disappear on us, i was a little worried. i know i’m not much better but as your friend i have the right to nag you for not writing. so forgetting summer, are you happy to be back? heard you got a pretty little badge added to your robes.”
❝oh no need to worry about me alice, i’m alright i promise. next time i’ll definitely remember to write more often. oh that, uh yeah. it’s a little surreal to be completely honest. i didn’t really expect to be chosen but i’m also really happy about it so we’ll just have to see how it goes. ❞
“Blame them–” she refuted helplessly as she pointed and glared at the flock of gits walking away, “it was terrible and the lack of originality was the worst part – if you’re going to try to get my attention, put in some effort–”
❝if i blamed every immature male for the load of bollocks that came out of their mouths, i’d spend my life fighting away and that really seems counterproductive. instead, how about you ignore them and carry on because really, if they weren’t even original, are they worth your time?❞ her brows rose higher as she tilted her head, waiting for the brunette to see her point. ❝besides it wouldn’t be a fair fight, you’d take the lot down in a second.❞
“i’ll let her know you like it that much! i am glad to be back but it’s sort of bittersweet, our last year? talk about depressing. are you sure you didn’t do much this summer lils? you hardly wrote i would expect you to be booming with good news from back home! i’ve missed our little red!”
❝oh don’t even get me started on that, i’ve avoided thinking about the end of our time at hogwarts because my heart j ust cant take that quite yet. oh, no… just same old i guess. nothing worth reporting back. a totally normal muggle summer.❞
“only if you think helping out at the ice cream parlour is really EXCITING. aside from that, i just stayed home and played quidditch every now and then with some pals but i can’t really deem that too exciting.”
❝i’ve tried your mom’s ice cream before, if not exciting it’s at least thrilling for my tastebuds. and quidditch is always fun? but i guess it is good to be back at school where more fun is expected. it’s good to see you alice.❞
Soft laughter flowed from the Gryffindor boy at her words, normally that would of been the case, but the past summer had mostly been complied of lost sleep thinking of his final year and how much too soon he’d have to leave the safety and protection that Hogwarts offered someone like him. “Perhaps I’m choosing not to incriminate myself.” He joked lightly. “It’s best you don’t know Lil, I’d hate for you to be accused of being an
accomplice after the fact .” He winked, however his teasing smile softened. “Getting to see you again is the best part of summer ending.” He told her, “well, that and the food.” Remus grinned.
❝that sounds more like it, especially since you’re speaking to the head girl, wouldn’t want to land yourself in detention now would you?❞ lily teased her friend, her eyes sparkling as she let herself relax into the familiar exchange, forgetting for a moment what was going on around her. ❝aw hush now remus, you’ll make me blush and we both know how i hate that. i think i missed you more than the food though. speaking of, we should get going, try and get a good seat before the sorting? i always adore seeing the first years faces when they get into the house they wanted.❞
